Chicago teachers vote to teach from home, defying district – Associated Press

“There’s no doubt we all want to return to in-person instruction. The issue is CPS’ current unpreparedness for a return to in-person instruction, and the clear and present danger that poses to the health of our families and school communities," the union said in a statement.

Laughable, if you don’t have children endangered by these CTU radicals. Coming soon to your local city school, a virtual picket line demanding their right to stay away with full pay. A world turned upside down!

With illinois strike friendly teachers union laws, ctu/ sharkey & gates /and it members see themselfs as setting leading example for all teachers unions nationwide. Not a chance of anyone getting fired or loosing a dime of pay on the tax payers dime. The kids are just collateral damage…..and the desperate for ratings press LOVES the ctu

The teachers like semi retirement being at home. Full pay and benefits and they can lounge around at home while doing a few zoom meetings. The CPS administrators also are enjoying their semi retirement, this isn’t just the union opposing reopening, it is the whole system. Schools and commercial office space, both are now obsolete it seems, everybody is enjoying their semi retirements too much, commuting does take a huge chunk of your life away if you bother to add up the hours over a month. Don’t ask me why we’re still paying the custodians though, for “remote floor mopping”… Read more »

But this union now. If you didnt realize it previously, then CTU’s actions in the past year are proof that these vile union members are greedy vermin who don’t give a rats ass about education or kids. Bust the union. Toss the former members onto the street with no severance pay, no unemployment benefits (after all they are fired for cause) and no pensions.

Alright Lori and CPS, the ball is in your court. Will you follow through on your threat and stop their pay? How about benefits? You got played during the last contract. Did you learn anything? The schools are already closed so teachers striking will not cause any further harm than what’s currently happening. The only difference is you’ll be saving money. The teachers do not have the cards. Now is your chance.

Your logic is right on the money.

But, CPS and Lori will find a way to lose the ballgame. They are deathly frightened of public unions.

This is Lori’s make or break moment. She was elected because she was an outsider NOT beholden to the unions. Second, she is not a social justice warrior but she appeals to that class of voter so she has some political clout still despite failing at containing the summer insurrection. If she can stand tough against the CTU for the tax payers she may yet prove her metal. On multiple occasions she publicly criticized Pritzker and the ILDPH over covid rules but then apologized the next day humiliatingly and humbly. I think Lori knows what to do and wants to… Read more »

I have really tried to believe that it is the union leadership that is radical and destructive, not necessarily the teachers themselves. This vote throws that belief out the window. CTU membership, I hope this time you have gone too far and have voted yourselves out of a job. You need to be thrown off your self-appointed thrones.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
