Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Smoke pot, drink beer and liquor and chasing girls. It has been going on for thousands of years. And will go on for another ten thousand years. Let the kids have fun. Doing burnouts is nothing new. Most of the kids just want to have fun. Troublemakers are always out there. Just have to live with it.
The amusement park, Riverview, on the Northside was a great place to visit until the park began to have visitors who were somewhat unruly, ahem, ahem. Other factors were involved as well but people started hearing stories about things that were happening in the park that scared them away. I grew up 2 blocks away and was at Riverview almost daily during the summer for several years. I saw the changes of clientele and it wasn’t for the better. This was in the early 60’s and it seems the downtown youths have something in common with the Riverview crowd that… Read more »
The Vallas plan to keep schools, parks and libraries open on weekends and at night staffed by non-profits was a great idea. But im sure if ctu/Brandon took up this plan he would have it staffed by $ctu$, $seiu$, $etc$
How about teens be given a curfew by parents and get to bed by 10:30 pm on weekends
Once again, lighfoot allocated $100s of millions in covid bucks to anti-violence but has spent very little of it. It will be interesting to see who ctu/Brandon gives those $ too. I have a feeling we all know who.
Baloney on “no options”. Plenty of options right at home, at relatives, at local park, at neighborhood community center, at school program, and/or employment via part-time job, etc. These kids plan on social media, post their “acting out” on social media, who come downtown specifically to mingle with like-minded folks, looking for unsupervised “excitement”. These young adults fully know if/when fights break-out, if/when their rowdiness flips into aggression towards other people, as group “flash-mobs” a storefront or vehicle, as physical violence breaks out, that police, even if present, have very few options for controlling mob. At best, folks get herded… Read more »
Social media companies are an accomplice to all social ills. Glenn Lowry gets his videos pulled, but Glock switch kids get promoted. Think about that for a second.

Ironically, many suburban teens come into the city neighborhoods because there is actually nothing to do in the suburbs either.
I grew up near Midway airport and on weekends me and my buddies would drive to Oak Lawn and try to pick up “suburban” chicks! Thinking about it now, I shake my head and laugh.
There are TONS of activities for youth in these areas, all of which are generously funded by the government, and others that are faith – based… this is a STOOPID article…
They could gather at 31st, Rainbow or Jackson Park Beach.
What are no show, no work city jobs going to do for these yutes? Work during the day doing nothing, then they can come downtown to riot and beat up innocent tourists who are stupid enough to visit Chicago, the city of mostly peaceful riots.
City, CC, state taxes & regulates businesses out of existence that could offer outlets to youths, (largely to benefit the upper-income public sec heroes paychecks & guaranteed $astronomical$ retirement deals). And city parks, schools, libraries, etc are largely closed after hours and on weekend because keeping them open would mean more $ negotiating with are public sec heroes unions (next to none of whom live in the low income black communities where they work)……but of course, none of these issues are part any discussion of city violence/ systemic racism, etc
