Chicago Unveils Bid to Host 2024 Democratic National Convention – WTTW (Chicago)

The video does not skimp on the traditional and required shots of the city’s skyline and lakefront while lauding the city’s “architectonic” landmarks. But that glossy image of Chicago is juxtaposed with footage from protests spurred by the police murder of George Floyd in the summer of 2020 and celebrates the city’s history of boisterous political protest. “Supression, opression we’re fighting for equality, it is why we are known as the heartland of democracy,” Common raps, as an image of a newly elected President Barack Obama walking on to the stage at Grant Park in 2008 flashes on screen.

How much do residents who live outside Illinois and who watch mainstream media really know or understand about the Chicago situation? Do they know enough to be skeptical of an advertising campaign? Can they envision the demonstrations and disruptions that such a convention would invite? On the other hand, who wants to bankroll a truth squad to discourage holding such a major event in Chicago? What better way to give AOC and Bernie louder voices at the convention?

You would be stunned to know how many of my neighbors in North Carolina know exactly what is going on in Chicago, and the reasons why it is happening. I live in a semi-rural area, and when I mention I moved to NC from Illinois, the locals congratulate me on leaving and want to hear the stories I have. They know all about Lightfoot and the insane events happening in the city. I think watching the news about Chicago when you don’t live there is just like people going to circus freak shows in the past, there’s just a human… Read more »

Democratic Convention in Chicago would be the perfect way to showcase the Democrat platform for voters. Democrat policies played out in real life!

They’d all be in a green zone type of bubble completely shielded and unaware of the violence on the street, like a Potemkin village or something.

No one wants to come to Chicago, even the elite Leftist Democrats prefer to stay away.

Bring it on. Hopefully it goes as well as the 68 convention. By 2024 Biden will be wearing Depends 24/7. He can’t string two words together without getting a brain cramp.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
