I find it interesting that these historic figures are being ‘cancelled’ because of something they did that doesn’t meet today’s lofty standards.
Why isn’t this standard applied to the likes of George Floyd? He did horrible things in this age in violation of current mores, but all’s forgiven?
The double standard speaks to the hypocrisy.
New populations move in and replace the natives. The newcomers, without any historical connection to the natives’ land or culture, seek to rename and remake landmarks and institutions in their own likeness. Constantinople became Istanbul; and so on.
