Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. In some hotels you can check in online, open the room door with your smart phone, check out online, and thus there is not a requirement to visit the front desk or interact with staff.
As things stand now, depending on occupancy and length of stay, you may not see a sole during your hotel stay.
Obviously that will change as people begin traveling more.
We were planning a family vacation this summer, but paying good money to wear a mask in hot weather combined with the unknown impact of social distancing on all our activities (historical sites, museums, beaches, dining) has made us think twice. Guessing we will forego any such trip until next year. Guessing many families are doing the same.
