“You could see the impact of COVID on crime,” said Wesley G. Skogan, an emeritus Northwestern University political scientist who analyzes Chicago’s numbers. Lately, however, society has been healing, Skogan said. “Schools are open. Violence interruption is more common than it was before. Youth and recreational services are back. The police are working more reasonable hours and their activity — traffic stops, arrests, speeding tickets — has been creeping back up toward normal.”
Once you have been robbed you never forget the experience.
Many people who get robbed move out of the area. Fear is a very powerful motivator.

This man should get out of the city–the crimes are coming west to the suburbs. April 7th, there were 20 smash and grabs of businesses in Downers Grove. More in Lombard near Yorktown Shopping Center. Maybe Chicago is getting better, but it is just moving out of the city and to the suburbs. Time to move out of DuPage County!!!!
Time to move out of Illinois. If police are not GPS-ing the cash registers by now, it is being allowed to happen.
“This rash of burglaries came shortly after three businesses in the village were burglarized in 24 hours in late March. Police received surveillance footage from some of the businesses that had been burglarized, but as of April 16 no suspects had been identified.” – These Are The 20 Businesses Burglarized April 7 In Downers Grove
Criminals are moving to locations where they can get a return on their investment in crime. THe place with the Benjamins are the well to do suburbs.

WBEZ is only too happy to reinforce the Dem mantra that reclassification/ non- reporting of crime equals less crime. There is still a murder in CHI approximately every 23 hours and still someone shot every six hours. But crime is down.

The police are working more reasonable hours and their activity — traffic stops, arrests, speeding tickets — has been creeping back up toward normal Who are they kidding? Traffic stops are almost non existent since the democrats are passing legislation every day to tie the hands of the police from making them and the cops are responding by not making traffic stops. Arrests, down by double digits, speeding tickets issued by speed cameras and not police officers. The democrats in Illinois and around the country love violent criminals, love violent illegal aliens, love gang members and drug dealers and could… Read more »

The stats in this article seem cherry-picked to show a positive trend. Why just robberies? Why not crime generally? Or even street crime generally, to include battery, assault, and the attempted iterations of both? Police have some discretion as to how they classify these reported crimes, and the stats cited in the article appear to be driven by reports, not arrests.
Let’s not forget the progressive prosecutors that allow what should be felonies to be pled down to misdemeanors. The American legal system has become a felon enabling joke.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

Declaration seems a might premature.
