Chicago’s Top Doc ‘Really Optimistic’ About Chicago’s Progress On COVID – Block Club Chicago

Dr. Allison Arwady thinks the city could see three of the four milestones — positivity rate, hospital beds and ICU beds — in the “lower” or “low” categories by early next week. Chicago's mask mandate may be ended early to line up with the state, which plans to end its mandate Feb. 28.

They need to stop patting themselves on the back. Chicago didn’t stop the covid, omicron did:

Um its not “Chicago’s progress”, Chicago nor anybody else can claim credit for the downturn in cases. But instead give omicron all the credit. Omicron is the gift that gave us herd immunity. We needed a covid variant that was both aggressively contagious but also relatively harmless, so everyone can easily catch it like a cold and receive the gift of natural immunity. That gift came in the form of omicron. Politicians are so narcissistic that they actually think they are the heroes that killed covid, the real hero is omicron.

It’s hard to trust the numbers, when they can make the numbers be anything they want. That’s what this pandemic as taught me.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
