Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. They are not feckless. They are actually brave – to continue their destructive policies despite massive public push back from voters, other politicians, corporate america, police…. These politicians are causing destruction. This is the point. They have explicitly rejected your ideas of what society and life in Chicago should look like. They are re-imagining it in their own progressive vision. And higher levels of crime and mayhem, mostly caused by blacks and hispanics, are an integral part of that vision. Illinois and Chicago voters got EXACTLY the government and governance that large majorities of us voted for. Fox campaigned on a platform of “social justice” – not prosecuting crime. Lightfoot told us she was going to pick fights and insult everyone. Pritzker promised he was going to support every social justice and liberal/progressive reform that hit his desk, in the moments he had available in between shoveling wish-sandwich tax dollars into public employee union pockets. I’m glad to see some here has swallowed the red pill. The voting majority is getting exactly what it wants: policies that completely reorder society and cause destruction, mayhem and instability every step of the way.

City-Journal and the Chicago Contrarian are great reads but both miss the bigger picture. They’re stuck applying 1980’s policies to 2022 problems. These opinion writers naively believe that fighting ‘crime’ is the politician’s job and our feckless leaders have ‘failed’. The reality is the exact opposite. Our leaders – all of them – campaigned on and sincerely believe in social justice. SJ doesn’t exist to fight crime. SJ exists to address and fix ‘root causes’ of the problems of BIPOC communities. Sad, because City Journal is quite correct in its observations, and yet Chicago voters, for most part, will still reelect these inept and often hostile politicians. We’re conditioned to blandly accept incompetence, petty grievances, and blatant corruption.
Time for the suburbs to do their part. Cancel who they can, like Casten and Underwood.
Good Luck, their districts were redrawn something like Biden +10 or something. In a general Republican +8 environment, that might not be enough.
