Ald. Jason Ervin, Mayor Brandon Johnson’s handpicked Budget Committee chair, said it’s borderline “malfeasance” for Martinez to have pushed through a $9.9 billion school budget that does not include the pension payment that the city absorbed until former Mayor Lori Lightfoot shifted that cost to CPS.
Malfeasance? It is merely negotiation. Martinez wants to push a payment back to the City that in times past was paid by the City. Ervin calls it malfeasance because it makes him uncomfortable. Neither the City nor CPS has the money as each are facing deficits. Certainly not a welcome event for union supporters. What is malfeasance is what Johnson wants to do with the schools. Borrow $300M in the hop and prayer that that Springfield will rescue CPS/CTU with billions?
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
let the shameless scapegoat blame games begin!!! ….for the few dopey taxpayers tuning in (me unfortunately)
