“A lot of people who have been there for a long time keep waiting for it to get better,” veteran political consultant Delmarie Cobb said. “They may have served under Daley and then thought Rahm would be better. Then they served under Rahm and thought Lori would be better.”
They’re retiring because they were grandfathered into a pension benefit even more lucrative than everyone else: 80% of final average salary after only 20 years.
There’s also a rule in the pension code that allows aldermen to decline pay raises but continue to contribute to their pensions as if they received that raise. So their final pension might be based on a salary they don’t technically earn. They most likely maxed out their benefit or realized the extra couple years of hassle weren’t worth the increased pension.

“Donald Trump’s presidency led to a coarsening of political debate that’s also infiltrated local politics said Moore, who represented Rogers Park in City Council for 30 years “
Riiiight, it’s all Trump’s fault. Before he became president, politics was ever so civil, especially in Chicago City Council.
A guy on the radio called into the 560 AM show a year or two back and said that he’s had conversations with IL Democrats who are FED UP with the leadership, but when he suggests voting Republican instead, his neighbors say that Republicans are racists and they don’t want to be associated with that. This is the level of stupidity we are dealing with here.
The problem with IL is the people. They wrecked everywhere. Because that’s what communists do. Wreck everything and then blame others for their own destruction.
To be fair, Moore missed the “Council Wars” of the early 1980s but yeah, Donald Trump coarsened the political debate in Da Chicagah City Council? It is to laugh sir, it is to laugh.

Hmmmm…….. I could be wrong, but don’t politicians keep their election war-chest when they retire? Why blow money on an election you’re sure to loose; stuff it in your pocket! They’re going to leave in a stampede. Establishing as much distance possible between themselves and the inevitable investigations! The last thief out will be the first one caught. They’d save everyone a lot of work if the moment they retire report to the nearest federal joint USBP.

Santa Claus could have been in office as a Republican and he’d have been called a Nazi.

The situation in Chicago is hopeless and it will take down the whole state with it.
