City taps $95M in federal COVID-19 relief funds for migrant housing costs – Chicago Sun-Times

Mayor Brandon Johnson, pictured at a Nov. 28 news conference.“This doesn’t change that outlook,” the mayor’s senior adviser, Jason Lee, said. “We’re going to continue to lobby the federal government for more support as the situation becomes, frankly, more unstable.” The city so far has spent more than $138 million to care for the new arrivals.

Inflation will continue, unabated, regardless of THEIR numbers; the government is spending money it doesn’t have, like I could never have imagined. The intentionality of the chaos is undeniable. This is what Trump stood in the way of. What I mean is, that the American citizen in 2016, could never have imagined what is taking place on our border. A “weaponless” invasion on our southern border, so well-coordinated, and yet, the most powerful agencies in the world, would claim helplessness to the American citizens do act or do anything? NO WAY! He stood in the way of this, in a… Read more »

Once upon a time tax dollars had to be spent on what they were appropriated for.

I don’t remember any politician bringing a bill to the floor to tax Americans to provide healthcare for illegal aliens.

We’re an economic zone for migrants, not a country! Old Joe, you’re an Old Man with Old Ways of thinking! Time for you to have a Struggle Session to Re-Educate yourself out of the Four Olds (Old Ideas, Old Culture, Old Customs, and Old Habits)

Gov Slickback just upped the ante’ -‘FREE’ healthcare for any illegal migrant, but NOT U.S. citizen taxpayers! I’m certain Pritzker will match.

This must be killing Brando, having to spend those Covid dollars on the illegals. He had other plans for those free Fed Covid bucks provided by Diaper Joe. The billions in free money that state agencies still control, and use however they see fit even though there were supposed to be guidelines around spending. They remain from the trillions the mumbling POTUS distributed that drove record inflation that is still killing middle income families. Those silly programs are running out of steam but the Dems still plan to use them to drive votes in next year’s election. They’re counting on… Read more »

Yes, inflation. When I read the article I thought that we are still in an inflationary spending surge that will go on into the next Presidential term regardless of who gets in as a present from Joe and the Democrats and to be sure, the Democrats will all line up and vote for more of it to continue.

Kind of interesting, other news outlets are saying CTU/Brandon can spend the $95 mil in covid funds without aldermanic vote. Per article, the $95 mil would come out of total $400 mil in covid funds remaining, so does this mean CTU/Brandon has a $400 mil covid slush fund he can dole out as he wants without aldermanic vote?

Is it even legal to use covid funds for illegals.

At what point is anybody in press going to wakeup and ask –what is the city/state spending on the 26,000 “new arrival” migrants per migrant vrs US citizen homeless in Chicago per homeless?

As a side note, anecdotally, in the parks in my nw side hood the homeless tents & makeshift encampments amazingly seem to be growing in # even in (mild) winter. It’s hard to tell who’s US citizen homeless or who are migrants. Some folks are camped out literally 20′ ft from migrant shelter if you know where to look. I used to call the alderman but they seem resigned to not doing anything or being overwhelmed.

They aren’t overwhelmed, they just are resigned to doing nothing

the big problema for CTU/Brandon & JB’s big August dem convention bash is when it warms up your going to have the parks fill with migrant, mostly men, who would rather live in a tent or makeshift shanty in the park than in a shelter and that’s not going to be a good look….(as astoundingly the reality is life in a tent in the the park with free food and health handouts beats starving in the failed dictatorship of a Venezuela any day.)

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
