Aldermen voted to use $1.5 million in tax increment financing to buy a 10.7-acre property along the North Branch of the Chicago RIver, from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. Once the city makes repairs to the building's heating and air conditioning systems, the city plans to house up to about 550 migrants there as soon as next month.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
And there goes the neighborhood.
(It used to be a nice neighborhood, when I was growing up, but I don’t know what it’s like now. One thing’s for sure, it’s going to get worse.)
