You can get more than 1 homestead exemption as long as one home is a rental and being a single family home not a duplex. The tenants must sign a paper stating that they are responsible for the property tax’s. The lease must state that X$$’s are for tax’s and X$$’s for rent. The lease must be dated from Jan 1st thru Dec 31st and a copy of the tenants agreement must be given to the assessor early in the year. Interesting. In my county we are told the tax bills have to be mailed to the tenant who is responsible to pay the bill; not a monthly payment to the landlord.
