Civic Committee leaders: Mayor Johnson, don’t cancel ShotSpotter unless you can transition to something better – Chicago Tribune*

"...(P)olitical promises must be weighed against the facts and information that one obtains once in the job. Let’s be honest about the facts. ShotSpotter does not do what it initially promised it would, which is to solve and prevent crime. But it does save lives."

Playa dismisses SpotShotter as a walkie talkie on a stick. Playa seemingly ignores the instances where police were alerted to a shooting long before a photo call was made. Playa feels the program is racist as well and perhaps doesn’t have the funds necessary for it after lavishing money upon the new arrivals. That the city he ( in theory ) runs is billions of dollars in the red is no secret.

Please Mayor Johnson, cancel shot spotter, even though you kept it in place for the DNC. The people that elected you will love you and I am sure it will have no effect on your crime clearance rate. Your constituents deserve, in spades, every last benefit of your vast decision making ability. Your neighboring states thank you.
