Civic Federation Says Illinois Should Extend Sales Tax to Services to Help Bridge $3B Budget Deficit – WTTW (Chicago)

According to the report dubbed the State of Illinois FY2026 Budget Roadmap, “By applying the sales tax only to goods and a small number of services, Illinois is missing the ability to tax much of the spending within its borders. Broadening the sales tax base would yield several notable benefits for the State and its residents and customers.”

Amanda Vinicky, typing on behalf of Wilmette Talking To Winnetka and the Illinois Democrat Party, regurgitates the desire for the day drinkers of the Civic Federation to raise taxes on the already overtaxed Illinoisans. The drinkers even admit that Illinois has too high a tax burden and that it’s one of many reasons why Illinois ranks high in the list of states losing resident. Their solution? Get rid of layers of government? Cut spending? Nope.

More taxes.

When the last productive taxpayer leaves Illinois, please turn out the lights.

In short, TAX the people of Illinois MORE.
In the end it doesn’t matter what the tax is called, Illinoisan’s are just taxed more.
