House Bill 1836 takes crimes that currently can be sealed by petition to allow them to be sealed automatically. “The only problem is that in statute, there are protections to make sure that before someone's criminal record is sealed, they are rehabilitated,” state Sen. Steve McClure said. “And this bill also eliminates those protections.”
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
