Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. IL Democrats will once again reelect the FBI’s favorite IL politician as Speaker of the House. Hopefully when Madigan is finally criminally charged the FBI will dramatically remove him from his dais in the IL Capital House chamber. Walk up to the desk and remove Madigan in shackles during an IL house session and march him out of the chamber. Sort of like the Blago arrest but with a bit more panache.
