Column: Illinois not quite as welcoming to migrants as it set out to be – Lake County News-Sun

"Buffalo Grove, Grayslake, Highwood, Mundelein, North Chicago and Waukegan, are among county municipalities hoping to curb the influx. Officials contend they don’t have room or infrastructure for the migrants...It’s a patchwork system for sure. What’s needed are statewide provisions. If regulating immigration is a job for the federal government, then Illinois government needs to get involved in the beginning when the buses enter the state from interstates 55 or 57, and escort them north."

Those suburbs declaring “bus moratoriums” are often also same suburbs filled with lawn signs and bumper stickers “no hate here; everyone welcome”. Easy to virtue-signal your progressive values from the comfort of your 3000SF+ house, petitioning your local town hall to adamantly refuse to share any burden of espoused progressive values, including any “sanctuary city” cost-obligations and burden upon public services. North Shore suburbs still usher-out the homeless from their public libraries and police stations, despite the lawn signs. Pritzkler family, as progressive party leaders that they pretend to be, should offer to house recently-arriving migrants in their many Hyatt… Read more »

Are the Democrat voting rubes in IL finally getting through their TDS peanut brains that Democrats don’t give a whit about you?

Both Democrats and Republicans have been enabling illegal immigration for decades, despite most Americans not wanting it.

I remember 25 years ago, seeing a terminal to apply for jobs at Jewel, all in Spanish.

IIRC, the Sanctuary State law was signed by Bruce Rauner, Republican.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe what Rauner signed was called “The Trust Act” that basically focused on detaining or arresting individuals based upon their immigration status. The Sanctuary issue I believe began in 1985 when Harold Washington, Chicago Mayor, signed an order to prohibit the withholding of City services, investigation and prosecution of individuals based upon immigration status. Of course we all know many, if not most, claim they are seeking asylum then they are protected by Federal law making, I would think, the matter a border issue that Biden as well as Congress should address.… Read more »

Question? When did Illinois ask to legal residents if they wanted to become a sanctuary state? Was the question on any ballot? Sorry don’t recall how we became this way.

Not to argue but on election day the Illinois voters voted for the Democrat party candidates that supported open borders. They voted for Pritzker, or voted for him by not voting, who supported Illinois being a sanctuary State. So, in my mind, Illinois did in fact vote to become a sanctuary State and now must live with the consequences

They voted for their place at the public trough. Nobody thought that sanctuary state stuff meant they actually had to take in and pay for illegal immigrants. That was only supposed to be a slogan on their virtue-signal signs.

Although I can’t read the article, as I won’t pay for the tribune. It does state from what I see that the state police should escort the busses. I agree. They should escort them to a gas station to fill up then send them on their way to washington.

We the People, did not invite the border busters, ie., illegal aliens into America. They were thrust upon America by a tyrannical Democrat president and his administration who will not close our borders and protect the citizens of America. Just as Pritzker has declared Illinois a sanctuary state. You are lucky if you live in a community that rejects bus loads of illegals being dropped off anywhere at any time during the day/night. The illegals have to go to the Chicago intake center first. I think that will change when, just like Texas, Chicago cannot take anymore illegal aliens, they… Read more »

The Tribunes comments such as “we are a proclaimed welcoming state” gives the impression that it backs the current immigration situation. So, with that in mind, will the Tribune provide the immigrants with free copies as a welcoming gift? Perhaps the Tribune is trying to butter up Pritzker with the upcoming election advertising campaigns on the horizon. Campaigns come and go and afterwards the fish wraps seek subscribers for their revenue streams. Unfortunately for the Tribune I don’t see the immigrants as new subscribers and to many of the old subscribers this may be the event that makes them unsubscribe.… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
