Ggambling as a whole has actually increased statewide by a significant margin — from $1.651 billion in 2012 to $3.031 billion in 2019. Given the legislature’s decision last year to dramatically expand gambling in Illinois, those revenues seem certain to continue to increase. At the same time, it is unclear who will benefit from the expansion.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
