Comentary: Bailey says Chicago is in crisis. Pritzker declares city is on the rise. Who is right? – Chicago Tribune*

David Greising, of the Better Government Association: "Pritzker’s exuberance over the deal to sell the Thompson Center is well earned. But giving credence to his effort to persuade us that Chicago is experiencing a tech-led economic renaissance requires a big set of blinders."

Chicago is a financial and governance God awful mess, Bailey may be a good man but he’s a political idiot, and the Chicago Tribune is a failing advertising billboard company camouflaged as a “newspaper.”

Humans are hardwired with a strong survival instinct. We’re funny that way. Until safety of law abiding citizens is made a priority, Chicago will continue to decline. And make no mistake, Chicago is in significant decline right now.

How can this possibly be put up as a serious question? No wonder Chicago voters are clueless.

Born and raised by Chicago Democrats my parents and extended family didn’t give a tick about who was running or why … they simply voted the straight Democrat ticket.

As an adult I questioned their politics and was told: “Democrats are for the working people and we are working people.”

Unfortunately, there’s still a lot of that mentality in the city in spite of the Democrats abandoning their ‘working people’ base.

All do respect, the ‘working people’ claim has shifted to an entitlement mentality – who is more likely to give me ‘free stuff’. Every time I go to Chicago (two of my kids are there, for now) I see more and more able bodied young ‘men’ in the grocery store with the food stamp card.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
