Commentary: Chicago is funding flexible housing for recently incarcerated people. We will all benefit. – Chicago Tribune*

"For the first time, (Chicago Housing Commissioner Marisa ) Novara announced, City Hall will make financing available to housing developers who commit to creating permanent supportive housing for people leaving incarceration...Novara’s statement also signals the unambiguous commitment of Chicago’s Department of Housing to leveraging its power to create permanent housing solutions for returning residents, who have suffered such disproportionately high rates of homelessness because housing strategies in Chicago have so far failed them."

How about requiring some of these units be right next to Marisa Novara’s residence?. She is the fool who wants to put criminals next to decent people.

So, the cities going to subsidize housing for people w violent records, chronic drug dealers & sex offenders? Who the hell wants to live next to that? Currently the city/cpd can’t even register the sex offenders? ‘Tis racist for not wanting to live in an enriched and vibrant neighborhood replete with registered sex offenders, parolees, homeless and drug addicts. Check your privilege at the door and show some respect for the cultural values & mores of poor folx who just want to live like they do where you do. Your life will forever be enriched with all manners of anti-social behavior! Ooops! Sorry, shouldn’t call it anti-social behavior, that comes from a place of privilege. It’s just a different way of life and I’m racist for judging it as inferior or substandard.

Landlord, “This lovely 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment with a great view of the park across the street can be yours for only $1900.00 a month, with a parking space. Unfortunately the neighbor on your left is a recently paroled serial rapist and the neighbor on the right just was released from prison for a series of home invasion robberies”. Door slams, hurried footsteps out of the building.

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
