Commentary: Do Chicagoans think hosting the DNC is worth it? – Chicago Tribune*

Will Johnson, of The Harris Poll: "Three out of every five city residents think the convention will have a positive effect on the local economy, and roughly half of all city residents say the event should be a positive for the city overall. ... Nevertheless, 3 in 10 Chicagoans say the convention will be an imposition on city residents, and a similar number want law enforcement to restrict protests and marches during the convention and worry that a disruption such as a security breach would hurt the city’s reputation."

The monetary gains that the city realizes will be blown out of proportion exponentially and eaten up by ot pay to the CPD etc. The notion that CHI could have an even worse reputation than it already has as the murder capitol of the US for a least the last 12 years is laughable at best. One has to wonder what sort of alternative reality the people polled are living in, because they seem rather oblivious to the reality of CHI since Lightfoot took over.

Jumbo Pritzger believes that the DNC will put him on center stage for the planned 2028 presidential run. By then he will weigh 445lbs have 9 chins but will probably be the darling of the democrats. National exposure is what he is seeking so hopefully the DNC will fall in chaos so the country can see what a mess Chicago and Illinois are in. Johnson will suffer panic attacks and blame Nixon, again, for any problems.

Spot on. Virtually everything that has happened in Illinois since Pritzker was elected governor is preparation work and part of the Prtizker for President Campaign. All of Illinois is simply cannon fodder for JB’s dream. Likely for the past year JB has been practicing his DNC speech that will propel him onto the national stage…….just like Obama’s DNC speech in 2004.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
