Jackson Potter, vice president of the Chicago Teachers Union, and Crystal Gardner, of United Working Families: "Pitting schools against one another with an enrollment system that ranks and sorts students by test scores has created a more segregated and unequal school district. As graduates of Whitney Young Magnet High School, we can attest to the promise and peril of an approach that produces clear winners and losers. For far too long, our schools have run families through a 'Hunger Games' style obstacle course of feast or famine."

This is complete and utter drivel. They want to destroy an extremely diverse and well-integrated magnet school because, reading between the lines, there are too few black students in attendance at Whitney Young. And like all communists, their replacement plan is always really vague. They suggest replacing high performing schools with community driven schools that focus on nonsensical initiatives like: “..green technology skills linked to engineering and computing to tackle the imminent threat of climate change and ameliorate the cumulative impacts of pollution and toxins that contaminate too many of our frontline communities.” Note that he doesn’t propose teaching students… Read more »

Somebody I know close to CTU leadership told me the nuttiest of the CTU extremists are white males like Jackson Potter, the CTU VP who authored this. That’s because they have to go above and beyond to prove their wokeness and radicalism, he said.

Interesting, I had no idea that Jackson Potter was white. I evaluated the editorial purely on it’s content and it’s ideas, without any consideration of the skin color of the author. That’s why I love this internet medium so much, and that’s why I love talking on the phone too. It doesn’t matter if the other person is black, white, gay, mexican, or trans, or whatever, because you can’t see the person, and their ideas can only be judged on the content of what is provided.
