Mike Carroll, retired circuit judge and former state’s attorney in Douglas County: "My roots are so deep, I feel like an old tree that simply is too big to be transplanted, even if I wanted to be transplanted, which I don’t, even though JB Pritzker and those Chicago progressives seem to be digging away furiously at my roots."
Realistically other than state finances, the liberal day to day BS doesn’t affect him or his family that much. There’s no pronouns in schools, no anal s3x celebrations in the streets, etc. Springfield can pass all the laws they want but nobody dare enforce them.

Two state pensions – he NEEDS idiots to stay to get 100 cents on the dollar if his retirement plan. Pathetically, he’s (or his) unrealistic retirement plan is one of Illinois’ largest sinking ships ($250+Billion underfunded). But the unions and the fat-ass lucky sperm governor won’t make the necessary changes. Totally conflicted parasite feeding on the carcass

Sounds like a nice guy living in a part of the state that is far less progressive. He pays no income tax on his retirement income. For some reason he likes the weather. More power to him. Know this though, the exodus will continue. There is absolutely no way this state can attract more people than it is losing. I don’t care what Governor Carnival Barker says.

First, he’s a retired state’s attorney and judge. That’s two pensions right there. Second, property taxes can’t be the burden where he lives as opposed to the six counties up north, though the state pension crisis may impact him. Third, he’s retired. He can sit by the fireplace during a snowstorm or enjoy the A/C with some lemonade in the boiling summer. He doesn’t have to go anywhere. Finally, there are lots of places with 4 seasons. Here in SC, we have winter, but it’s over by March with no snow. We have spring, but it comes earlier and lasts… Read more »
Agreed. – Yea….this dude likely wasn’t the best example to use to stay in Illinois. Seems like he is “compromised” and motivated to keep most people here…paying taxes.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
In summary, he’s not leaving IL because he doesn’t have to. Many residents aren’t in that enviable financial situation.
