If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

Nah. We don’t need any more police on the streets. Let’s just send some counselors to find out what is troubling these misguided youths. Are they upset because they can’t find enough ammunition for their weapons? Or is it getting harder to hijack a car for an evening out? Or maybe they are getting too much homework from the public high schools and the are angry at the Chicago Teachers Union. As Lori Lightweight used to say, ” They are just looking for a way to express themselves.”

But wait, two days ago an innocent woman riding the train was set-on-fire by a career criminal with 50 arrests and immediate releases. How does this make any sense to anyone.
