Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. I’ve known more than several people who’ve left since the pandemic, now live in FL, TX, AZ, IN and TN. So when someone leaves my town, they sell their home to someone else, and in almost every case, it’s someone from Chicago who buys the home, replacing the homeowner who is leaving IL. Not sure what is happening in Chicago, but my guess is that Chicago neighborhoods become gang infested barrios, and creep into formerly ‘safe’ neighborhoods, the exudes will continue unabated. But I don’t know the illegal immigrants replacing them. I run in different circles.
Same here. When we left DuPage, someone from DuPage bought it. For all the years we lived there, there was never a new homeowner from out of state. Here in SC, almost every new and current resident came from blue states.
“… international migration?”
AKA/ Illegal invasion.
Will the spinning never end?
Use the correct words, Tribune – even Mr. Biden used the correct word in his State of the Union address.
Stupid chickens!
What is the economic difference in the residents lost versus those that migrated in? Do you honestly think there is any gain in income thanks to new arrivals? Or more of a loss if these new arrivals require more social assistance or use more government resources?
