Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. The state’s existing buyout program for its own pensions is the precedent for Chicago, which should be a warning: Look out for similar exaggerated claims and shoddy analysis.

The article is unsigned, but implies that Times of India has a reporter, at least a stringer, covering Chicago. I can’t figure out how to use the “search” function on their site, but wonder what other Chicago stories they cover.
Times of India is the biggest selling English language paper in the world. They do often have U.S. stories. From what I have seen, it’s great.

Please don’t forget Mike (The ultimate Crook) Madigan. This guy and his cronies might be the worst of them all. The guy made changes to the Illinois Law and Constitution to enhance the pay out of thousands of union members at the tax payer expense. He did it in such a way that it was wrong, but now law, making it near impossible to fix.
