County Board advances resolution to defund police ‘to take a bold step forward to break the systemic cycle of oppression’ – Chicago Sun-Times

Among other things, the resolution states “Cook County shall redirect money from the failed and racist systems of policing, criminalization, and incarceration that have not kept our communities safe, and will instead invest that money in public services not administered by law enforcement that promote community health and safety equitably across the County, but especially in Black and Brown communities most impacted by violence and incarceration.”

Aren’t Cook County officers the only law enforcement presence in unincorporated areas of the county? Guess they’re on their own now.

So no more county police officers? That means no more police at Cook County Hospitals. I’m sure the doctors and nurses are fine with that. What a coincidence that their contract is up this November. Tell them now there will be no renewal.

Heard on the street: “As a member of the Gangster Disciples, do you support this defund the police initiative?”

GD Member: “Why yes we do. Wholeheartedly. We will even help the police tear down the precinct. If they need help with moving their cars out of here, we’ll help with that too”

Anything that is about, or smacks of, different legal standards and treatment as a SYSTEMATIC matter is racist/tribalist and a throwback to what MLK was trying to root out. Only individual justice can maintain society and we’re regressing from this at a pretty frightening pace.

If not legal, she must be stopped.

When asked to describe what is systemic and institutional racism and where is it, there are all kinds of… Read more »

Blacks are the kings and queens of American society, privileged to the tee. When they rule in political majority they have no regard or fairness for white people. Periwinkle actions racist and militant.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
