County budget hole nearly doubles to $170 million from June estimate: ‘We didn’t have the hard figures on costs’ – Chicago Sun-Times

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle (second from left) meets with the Sun-Times Editorial Board in 2019. Pictured (from left) are then Budget Director Tanya Anthony, Preckwinkle, then Chief Financial Officer Ammar M. Rizki and Chief of Staff Lanetta Haynes Turner. About 60 unions represent county government workers. So far, the county has reached pay hike agreements with 33 unions representing about 10,000 employees, and has approved raises for another 3,500 nonunion workers, a county spokesman said. The county is currently negotiating with another 30 unions that cover about 5,000 employees. Officials say they do not expect to increase taxes or fees or add new ones, however, saying surplus money and other belt-tightening is expected to cover the gap.

One could speculate that they are trying to speed up complete insolvency before Biden leaves office and a federal bailout becomes more difficult.

Comment makes no sense federal bailout isn`t happening before the next election has nothing to do with Biden

Folks, this is why even FDR was against public employee unions. 60 separate unions just for Cook County!

Just raise taxes, it was what they were going to do anyways. Taxes will keep going up for years to come. Suck it up, get used to it or leave. Government does not work for the taxpayers; taxpayers work for the government.

“We didn’t have the hard figures on costs.”

Hmmm, OK…

“But, what the heck, we went ahead and gave everyone a raise anyway.”

Words just fail me….

Crooked Corrupt Democrat Party Boss Preckwinkle f**ked up again — who knew that giving out raises and welfare handouts would bankrupt the County
