COVID relief fraud probe includes over 50 employees in Cook County Clerk of Court Iris Martinez’s office – Chicago Sun-Times

More than 50 employees of Cook County Clerk of Court Iris Martinez are suspected of defrauding a federal program intended to help small businesses struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic, a spokesman said Friday. The clerk’s inspector general is working with Cook County’s inspector general’s office, which is conducting a separate investigation of employees who work for Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle.

Just additional proof that IL public sector union members are grifters at heart.

Just ignore all the covid relief fraud that occurred in the private sector. What percentage of fraud has occurred at the public level vs private? I’m sure you have that data. The reality is private or public, you will find fraud wherever opportunity for fraud exists.

I don’t think you know the definition of proof and you clearly demonstrate your inability to use basic reasoning.

Analyze every one of these 50 employees and find out who their sponsor is. You don’t get these jobs without knowing someone. The higher the clout, the less likely they are prosecuted. And even if fired, they will be quietly be rehired in some other government office.

If we never shut down businesses we’d never have the program. People should be accountable but it sounds like some brokers supercharged the program and pushed the applications on people. If people are willing to do this I wonder if they are willing to fill out a few ballots…what a waste for US taxpayers who play by the rules.

The only way to avoid crooks in Illinois is to leave Illinois. This kind of Schmitt has been going on for generations and has only gotten worse. After cheating the taxpayer for years, they then retire to Punta Gorda, Fl. to live in luxury homes. The system rewards them for nonperformance.

The observation that most government employees are honest is likely accurate. But 50 employees in office? That level of participation suggests a real cultural problem.

You must have been born last night. Try and do business in the Chitty of Chicago and you will be shaken down by every inspector that comes out. You will almost always fail the first time. But if a local contractor fixes it you will pass. Graft is just the way it is, has been like this for generations. It has only gotten worse, and the end consumer is who ends up paying for all of it.

It is the culture of all Illinois democrats. There isn’t a nickel in a public program that they won’t attempt to swipe. They can’t help themselves as it part of their DNA.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
