Two board members in particular— Aaron “Jitu” Brown, an elected member who represents the West Side, and Debby Pope, an appointed member from the North Side — are echoing the demands of the Chicago Teachers Union. So far, neither Gov. JB Pritzker, nor legislative leaders, are jumping to heed the call.
Gosh – They have to hurry before the Covid Money runs out to fill the $700M deficit. These rocket scientists on the board spent Covid money on programs and services that require continued annual funding. Covid money should have only been used to pay for one time or maybe 2 year budgeted expenditures. So, now somehow this is an emergency for the rest of the friggin state to pay for these morons graft and corruption. Close it and leave it all closed. But really, who am I kidding, the state legislature will figure out how to have a backroom cigar… Read more »

Before more money is given to CPS, CPS needs to be fiscally responsible. Close underutilized schools first, along with the staff fo these empty schools. More money hasn’t improved student test scores.
More money will never solve Illinois problem since politicians no nothing else in this god forsaken state but spend spend spend with the same outcome every time for everyone.

Don’t look now, but the “ rednecks “ in MO that so many Illinoisans love to look down upon just had their governor expand alternative schooling and is giving serious consideration to closing underused/ unused schools in St. Louis, something arrogant people on this side of the Mississippi won’t even allow to be discussed. The deplorables could show blue states a thing or two about finances.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
