CTU President Jesse Sharkey announces he will not seek re-election – WGNTV (Chicago)

His statement reads, in part, "But we knew there was power in our rank and file, and that bread and butter unionism, despite being the foundation of traditional labor, wasn’t enough. It wasn’t enough then, and it isn’t enough now as we face right-wing forces that want to break our union, ban books, end anti-racist curriculum and unmask children during a pandemic."

Fixed the headline for you:

” Champagne Socialist S**t-Stain Jesse Sharkey — President Of The Crooked Corrupt Chicago Teachers Union — And Ringleader Of Multiple Illegal Strikes — Not Running For Reelection”

You’re Welcome!!

I think he’ll still be the ctu rep to aft executive council. (Doesn’t gates also rep ctu for ift? Not sure if any of those positions come with pay )

I think you have to participate on your local union council to participate on the IFT or AFT executive council. Guessing after being president, Jesse will pass on a diminished role.

As for receiving a stipend from IFT, Sharkey did indeed receive a small stipend last year of $2,750 to serve as a VP at IFT (think of it like how a bank makes everyone a VP). But Stacy Davis Gates received $62,000 last year from IFT as an “Executive VP”. She basically assumed the role Karen Lewis had in which she received big paychecks from both CTU and IFT.

Will Jesse return to some previous position in CPS? Was he previously a teacher? Did he jump directly from a viaduct to CTU?

He was originally a teacher and stated he is returning to teaching what he teachers who the hell knows, god help those kids.
There was a article originally here on wirepoints about parents putting pressure and demanding answers when CTU walked out last month on the kids, wonder if this has anything to do with the Shark stepping down.

Teachers that go work for the union are technically on a special leave of absence from the school district and can come back at any time (an example of an old report request can be found here). When they do come back to teaching, they are typically placed on a pay grade where they would have been had they never left teaching.

There is no place for a white cisgender male in any leadership role in CTU. I bet most people thought Stacy Davis Gates was president anyway.
