No way I am registering my “assault weapons”. especially since I have to fill out several forms, plus a FOID card, to purchase a firearm. therefore, Prickster already knows who owns every LEGAL gun in this state.
There’s nothing wrong with that. Most people didn’t register. The law is unconstitutional for sure, but there’s a small number of people who have *a lot* to lose if they got caught with an unregistered ‘assault’ weapon, so they registered anyways. The risk of a prominent lawyer, or judge, or high profile celebrity, or doctor, risking losing everything over a stupid registration requirement isn’t worth the risk to them. Congrats JB, you officially turned 2,370,643 of your state’s citizens into criminals overnight because they possess 16 or 17 round magazines, or an AR-15, or some other vaguely described but prohibited accessory.

That’s a very, very wrong way of looking at this. Most of those 29,357 people who registered are probably lawyers or other prominent professionals or prominent people, probably some cook or lake county former law enforcement. I only know a couple of lawyers with guns and both of them told me they registered their guns; because they weren’t going to risk losing their law licenses over registering a stupid gun with the law, for a law that will likely be overturned by the Supreme Court in a few years anyways.
