Democrats to Nominate Biden by Virtual Roll Call Before Convention – Wall Street Journal

The virtual approach also will help Democrats avoid the possibility of protests in Chicago over the war in Gaza interfering with Biden’s nomination. Organizers have been planning for protests outside the United Center in Chicago, and there also is a risk of disruption inside the convention hall if some delegates are opposed to Biden’s support for Israel.

“Through a virtual roll call, we will ensure that Republicans can’t chip away at our democracy through incompetence or partisan tricks,” Harrison said.

Apparently this has been a known issue for several years, but the Democrats schedule their convention to be held past the deadline anyway. Somehow that makes Republicans incompetent?

You’d look long and hard to ever find a Trump supporter at Davos. Your democratically elected governor was there, btw.

Don’t feel sorry for Trump in not taking a public salary. He filched big-time as President vastly exceeding that salary issue. Surely you recall the excessive fees charged for any person or company doing business at his Washington, D. C., hotel. Then, there was a LOT of government money spent for any business or government-paid security details alone done at his golf courses and for housing his Secret Service agents elsewhere in his other properties. Trump made out like the bandit he’s always been. He’s not into self sacrifice in any form and certainly to include any business done to… Read more »

It’s called a business, Jimmy. Try and open one sometime if you have the stones for it.

Just not in Illinois. JB the Hutt will confiscate your money and regulate you to death.

Try Iowa or Indiana.

When the President’s businesses were favored for governmental meetings and even charging higher-than-usual-rates for all public employees required to be there that had the distinctive odor of purposely extending President Trump’s profit motive. Then, add that numerous golf outings with the requisite security staff. Yes, he purposely and frequently chose to personally profit excessively at public expense. He definitely tilted the scales to his benefit at every opportunity. Trump’s businesses were never treated the same as other businesses seeking governmental contracts. Trump’s businesses always had priority where governmental funds were to be spent even to the exclusion of having to… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
