Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Sick state of IL/Chicago–the home of “Al Capone politicians”. Corporations here have to deal with that sleaze and malfeasance.
On the other hand, corps and the elite have not really fought it out with corrupt incompetent Chicago-IL politicians, and their public union accomplices. Probably because of the scale/embed of that sleaze/incompetence, and the ease of simply “making a campaign contribution” (and maybe a steak dinner at Gibsons) to get a big issue fixed fast.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. This woman threw her entire career away. She was blinded by the power. Just trying to stay out of prison now.
