The city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications said in a news release at 8:11 p.m. that the area was closed to incoming vehicular traffic from Division to 18th Street and from DuSable Lake Shore Drive to Halsted Street, citing "public safety due to large car caravans."
I’d take Mexican Independence Day celebrations over BLM (Burn, Loot, and Mayham). The businesses may lose a night of business, but at least they still have a business in the morning.
This is called a ‘straw man’ argument. The are more than two choices. There is a third choice and that is neither.

If Trump was president, he would send ICE vans to round up illegals en masse

A friend’s bar business downtown was down 75% on a nice Friday evening. So that’s supposed to be a good thing?

And yet Saturday’s Chicago Trib headline honors these weekend-long enormous car-caravan traffic disruptions as important “cultural heritage” celebrations, worthy of everyone’s respect and accommodation.
It’s not a permit-authorized parade down The Loop’s State Street.
It’s major inconvenience for all downtown and Near North residents and businesses.
It’s cause of disrupted ambulance, fire and police services.
It’s unfortunate huge traffic jam for all us other Chicago residents, not even mentioning the revelers’ car horn and motor noise, the auto exhaust and dope smell, and the littering.
Agree completely. The Mexican / Hispanic spokespeople they trot out say it is just people peacefully celebrating whatever. The restaurants and businesses say they just lost major business on the best night of the weekend because the cops had to shutdown car access because all all the uncontrolled mayhem. Johnson fails businesses again. Funny the Mexicans celebrate independence so vociferously for a country they ran away from because they themselves voted for soft on crime and corrupt politicians over the last 50 years. They will run away from sad-sack Chicago after they are done destroying it too.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

Another example of sad-sack Chicago.

If you import people from the 3rd world, you become the 3rd world. This is cultural diversity in action! What do you mean you don’t love it?
