Downtown shootings up 220%, biggest spike in city: ‘People are fed up’ – Chicago Sun-Times*

Ald. Brian Hopkins, whose 2nd Ward winds through downtown, said rising crime is “driving the sense of unease” and “prevailing fear” among his constituents, some of whom deluge him with emails saying they’re moving away. “I think we’re at the tipping point right now,” Hopkins said.

Numbers don’t lie, politicians do lie. Take your pick of which you trust down-towners and vote accordingly. Meanwhile I’ll stay here in suburbia never to set foot downtown again. Downtowners man up, take it back.

The last time I was within the city boundaries was October 22, 2016 for a birthday party in Roscoe Village. Haven’t returned, don’t miss it!

It’s “equity” buddy. It’s “equitable” that downtown, River North, South Loop, and Mag Mile shopping area experience as much violent crime as Englewood and Austin, and until “parity” is reached, we “privileged folk” are suppose to shut up, and pay-up, whether at gun-point, or via our taxes, and take our medicine like good children. You can virtue-signal your noble liberal intentions all you want, but when that street-crime, incivility, and general sense of lawlessness arrives at your doorstep, you’re still dismayed that your personal life is disrupted by these new and quite real fears of physical harm befalling you despite… Read more »

Equity means redistributing crime to downtown from high crime neighborhoods. Same levels of crime citywide but more equally distributed. In the famous equity picture, the little guy is downtown with no crime. This is a fairy tale, of course. Equity means rising crime everywhere. But don’t let ideology get in the way of reality. It’s never stopped the communist who merely retorts “But REAL equitable reform has never been tried! Only half attempts that fail!”

What if you have 5 gallons of the cleanest, sweetest, water around and then someone interested in ‘equity’ puts several drops of pooh into it, what do you have? Yup, 5 gallons of pooh.

“O’Malley, the deputy mayor of public safety, was pressed about downtown crime during a meeting with BOMA in July. O’Malley said he had blunt words for the organization. “They’re yelling at me about the crime in downtown Chicago,” he said during a July 15 meeting of the Chicago Police Board, which he previously served on. “I told them, ‘Y’all need to get in your car and go to Gresham, Austin, Lawndale, Englewood, Roseland.’ “Don’t come to me, yelling at me about the crime downtown,” he said. “I’m sorry that Suzie who lives in Lisle thinks she’s afraid to come downtown… Read more »

I was fed up, but now I am gone forever from chicago. You won’t catch me ever setting foot again in LLs murder city.

I respectfully argue people are not fed up. If they were fed up, they’d throw the Democrat bums out – demand resignations, and make sure they are not re-elected. But this won’t happen. Democrats are a cult.

If there’s no alternate viable candidates, then there isn’t anyone else to “Elect”. It’s silly to complain about who gets elected, most of our politicians are anointed to their supposed elected positions. You really think Foxx was “people’s choice”? Majority of Chicago’s middle-aged and older black folks are as pissed-off at Foxx as posters here.

There is a lot of backsliding come election day – these people suffer from ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ in great numbers.

Sometimes there are choices: A corrupt Democrat occupying the seat or the communist progressive looking to usurp it.

You lost Chicago, Make better choices next election. The democrats have had control for over 70 years and look where you are at now! Change is good, but most will keep voting the same dumb asses back in officer. Cannot fix stupid!

Time for residents to arm themselves. Oh wait Illinois has an unconstitutional Firearm ID requirement that takes over a year to process. Plus the very stringent unlawful use of weapon charges on the books make the risk/reward not palatable to lawful firearm owners. But if you illegally carry a firearm around the city you should be fine!

It’s time for residents to leave Chicago.
No ifs, ands or buts about it.
Otherwise your cemetery plot is waiting.

Tourist, who refused to give his name, was stabbed in neck during a Chicago mugging, says he expects crime in big cities and that alone isn’t enough to stop him from returning. I can’t tell if this is a news story, or a really poor attempt to gaslight some propaganda on the reader. This story of course, with an anonymous victim, probably didn’t even really happen. I’ve said it before, but Lori (Lightfoot), Tom (Dart) Toni (Preckwinkle) & Judge Tim (Evans) don’t have the political will to do what it takes to stop this because it involves mass asserts and… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
