Editorial: Amendment has been approved, but that’s all that’s clear – Champaign News-Gazette

"The courts will be wrestling with the meaning of the amendment’s lengthy, vague language forever...Even the amendment’s staunchest backers don’t know or didn’t care what they were saying about the amendment’s meaning."

This is all about Public Sector Union Parasite greed. Yes. Every member of a public sector union in IL is a parasite. For greater efficency they should simply hand out a list of the home addresses of the real workers of Illinois – anyone not in a public sector union – and send the union scum into the houses of the real workers to directly steal and thieve. Anything else is just a slow motion version of this large scale grand theft. It will be simpler and more quickly propel Illinois into it’s eventual end.

How so? Or are you just another commenter on here that rambles on about fraud without any proof? Never mind, we all know you’ve got the full tin foil hat on.

This amendment was legally added to by the people and for the people. The people of Illinois want this added as a basic right. The majority has decided in a democratic election.

Illinois will forever be a pro-union state. Illinois will not allow the right to work for less. Illinois is a beacon of hope for workers all around the country. Union Strong Forever.

As I laid in bed last night dreaming of my new home in a neighboring state, I think of the drunken public employee I met at a party over the summer. This is a true story. He said he hates the IL Dems and their values but as a public employee he needs Democrats to protect his interests. So he votes Democrats. He said he knows they are corrupt and bad and he hates the cultural stuff. But he needs them to protect his interests as a public employee. (I obviously just listened to the guy ramble on, I enjoy… Read more »

It’s called building a coalition and is considered quite successful in politics. You used to hear pundits call it “Big Tent” party.

Now the Republican Party loves to tell you what their views are and if you don’t align 100% with their view then you are labeled a Rino and an enemy of the party.

Hmmmm, I wonder which strategy is more effective?

Probably the Republican strategy, it brought out 54 million R voters this election cycle compared to the 50.5 million D ballots. Yeah, you don’t hear about that in the lame stream news media. Republicans more popular!

How did that strategy work in Illinois? If you’re happy with it then just keep on doing more of the same. lol

Total votes around the country mean nothing when you run up the score in certain parts of the country. For further clarification please see Hillary whining in 2016 in the same fashion you are now.

Oh, I agree with you. The strategy doesn’t work in IL. Because IL GOP has no ground game for R voters. But we do have 1.7 million voters who show up every election, and another 600k that show up during presidential elections. If we could only tap into that national energy and pump it up to over 3M in a presidential election, we could probably overcome the D supermajority and maybe send 5 or 6 Rs to congress instead of 3. But our voters are demoralized, broken down, lack energy, and gerrymandered out of relevance. All of us come here… Read more »

***—It also allows public employees to negotiate beyond wages, hours and working conditions to include “their economic welfare and safety at work.”-–***

What does that even mean…?

Ask 10 people & you’ll get 10 different answers…

I imagine the public sector union heads are salivating at this…

Amendment 1’s, where’s mine, details will be ironed out in the illinois courts that the machine 100% owns through gerrymandering & massive campaign donations and by trial lawyers associations that where some of Amendment 1 biggest $backers$….anyone who doesn’t think it’s $open season$ on the taxpayers wallet is an idiot.

So, obviously the next question would be—maybe the behind the scenes machine/ pay-to-play/ lawyers architects of Amendment 1 intentionally keep it’s wording so vague so the lawyers could have endless $$ opportunities $$ to battle out it’s details in machine controlled courts all on the chumbalone TAXPAYERS DIME$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!! THE MOTHER LOAD of equity hustles–chad-a-ching!!!!

This might be one of the best post-mortem editorials I’ve read on the amendment. Perfect tone…dumb idea, but now it’s there and no one really knows what’ll happen.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
