Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. I get worked up when I think of how far the Trib has fallen. I worked in the press room at 435 when I was just a wee lad. Dirty dangerous and none of the gin mills around Grand or St. Clair cared how old you were. The day Apollo 11 was due to depart the lunar service, two masthead plates were ready at each press. One announcing they’re on the way home. The other Stranded and Doomed! Those were the days! Gambling was everywhere. There was always one bookie on duty.
Just like the Dems would rather rule over a wasteland as long as they can keep their power, the Trib will be happy to continue to spew their propaganda about how great the wasteland is. All they do is gaslight from their flimsy pamphlet. But what would you expect from an organization that abdicated their freedom to publish the truth in order to suck up to those in power and promote a leftist agenda. Let’s hope Alden guts them further.
More products that contain only salt and sugar and no nutritional value whatsoever to feed the obesity appetite. Hypertension and diabetes are their side effects. Now I know why someone we know ripped their toilets out. That mansion is just a warehouse for these products.
Wow! Tribune op-ed Board , the top writers, are clearly full of the Progressive Dimicrat mindset.
Thick pairs of rose-colored glasses they wear , believing the glorious attraction of Chicago is its DIVERSITY.
I guess they think the Dem Mayors & city councils in Chicago (and around the country!) have done great jobs the past 50 years for its citizens.
Mantra of Journalists: FACTS BE DAMNED — PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRAT POLICIES ARE GREAT.
The Tribune is now completely lost. The news side is even worse.
Hi Mark! So true!
And it’s SO odd —they’re obviously excellent writers, A+, but the Left side of their brains aren’t just empty — they have ZERO common sense or cognitive ability to see the disasters that city govts’ terrible policies, over the decades, have caused. They NEVER SELF-CORRECT. Bizarre. Same with most major city govts & their media.
There is no news side any longer. Look at the bylines on almost all their stories. On most substantive matters it is 80-90 percent AP or New York Times sourced. The Trib doesn’t really “report” any more , they just reprint.
Not reprint.
Regurgitate.
OS: So true.
They’ve abandoned their own JOB1
CAT, Boeing and Citadel are hi tech, 21st century leaders and each best in their respective fields. They are talent magnets and pioneering the future of their respective fields. Kellogs makes crap junk food and is a 20th century fading giant in a low tech, low barrier to entry field. The Tribune once again shows it’s irrelevancy in the 21st century.
Low Information Tribune Says No Need To Worry About Businesses And Jobs Leaving Chicago
