Editorial: Get set to write the Johnson administration a big blank check – Crain’s*

"Would anyone who has followed Chicago politics for any length of time ever write City Hall a giant blank check? Certainly no one in their right mind. And yet, that's precisely what proponents of the newly redrafted "mansion tax" ordinance would have us do — and they have the added advantage of being able to characterize anyone who opposes their idea as a heartless creature who doesn't care about the homeless people their measure is designed to help."

“….if a referendum is approved in March, a new ordinance would need to be approved, likely in the spring….Here’s hoping a better plan emerges before then.”

Well, I’d say that Chicago is getting exactly what BJ and his cabal of anti-capitalist ‘progressive’ Marxists promised they’d do during his campaign.

Campaign promises that resulted in Johnson being elected Mayor by only 15% of Chicago’s registered voters.

How ‘dream, when you’re feeling blue’ is Crains’ best hope? That Johnson’s somehow going to change course just because a whole bunch of people who didn’t even bother to vote don’t like what Johnson’s doing.

I am paywalled from the article but I do not feel bad that the Limousine liberals of Hyde Park, Gold Coast and Lincoln Park etc are going to be smothered in taxes by the socialist, union idiot they allowed to be elected. Welcome to your new utopia, the dream is only 100 days old.

Other than drive around in vans on subzero nights trying to persuade homeless people to move to a shelter for the evening, what exactly has the city of Chicago done for the homeless? And by “homeless” I am referring to the legal Americans who are currently living on the streets and NOT the illegal aliens who have flooded our city.

American citizens come first! Especially our homeless veterans. They could definitely benefit from Johnson’s beneficence.

In last place for government support are the hoards of invaders visited upon our country by the Biden administration. All they should receive is a boot back across the border.

This so called “mansion tax” should be renamed as the “Get out of Chicago while you can still get something for your home act.”

Very good article from Crains. 1.) why are LABOR UNIONS involved in setting Transfer Tax calculations? Those calculations were based on ongoing conversations with the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless, labor unions and members of the real estate industry, said Ald. Matt Martin, 47th, who has collaborated with Rosa and the proposal’s lead sponsor, Ald. Maria Hadden, 49th. 2.) very scary, or in otherwords Transfer Tax or No Transfer Tax, your a fool to think your prop taxes aren’t going to keep going thru the roof During the first half of this year, commercial property sales totaled just under $5.3… Read more »

“Placing the burden on only one industry sector — and one that is at its weakest state in almost a century — is bad public policy.”

Yep, and there will be more examples of bad public policy forthcoming. That’s what happens when people without the required backgrounds and skill sets are making recommendations and decisions on how to run a large city.

Perhaps one angle why CTU/Brandon has “labor unions” (i.e. CTU) in Transfer Tax negotiations is that part of CTU’s progressive agenda is providing housing assistance to what they consider homeless CPS students (kids living with grandparents, single parent households, etc) that Transfer tax funds could be used for.
From ST article:

“The number of Chicagoans experiencing homelessness has increased throughout the pandemic and in the past several years. There are so many CPS high school students experiencing homelessness. There’s no question that we need this funding,” Ramirez-Rosa said”

You are correct… Remember the strike of 2019? From the Tribune on 🤣10/9/2019:
In a statement late Tuesday — nine days from a strike date set by the Chicago Teachers Union — the mayor said the union is “demanding that the city enact CTU’s preferred affordable housing policy as part of their contract.”

The Manchurian Mayor is doing exactly what he was elected to do..

Chicago Teachers Union contract demands are totally divorced from reality – Wirepoints

Details emerging about Chicago Teachers Union’s upcoming contract show just how divorced its demands, both extreme and expensive, are from the reality at Chicago schools. It’s not just about massive salary increases, but also about money for migrant students, climate initiatives, abortions and gender-affirming care. About blocking parental notification. Count on CTU’s demands to veer further from reality until the public finally says no.

Gov. Pritzker’s ‘ethics reform’ eliminates competitive elections and choice for voters – Wirepoints on AM 560 Chicago’s Morning Answer

Ted joined Dan and Amy to talk about a new law passed by the Democratic supermajority and signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker that results in brazen election interference, keeping Republicans off ballots; about a referendum that tests the waters for a renewed progressive income tax hike; about how the Parental Notification referendum question was knocked off the ballot; and why laws like that pass so easily.

Chicago needs more champions of literacy like Willie Wilson – Wirepoints

It’s rare to see city leaders in Chicago take an open, unabashed stance on the collapse of literacy. To complain is deemed as too political, too racist or too anti-public schools. So it’s refreshing to see Willie Wilson, a successful businessman and leader of the black community, call for a literacy initiative “with the goal of getting 100% of Black students reading at grade level.”
