Editorial: Illinois literally can’t afford to let good intentions run rampant – Champaign News-Gazette

"Given their sloppy initial oversight, it’s fair to say they deserve all the trouble this issue has created for them. Unfortunately, Illinois taxpayers are right there with them, well within the blast radius. It reminds us of the question routinely posed about government in Illinois: Does this state have a revenue problem that necessitates substantial tax increases? Or does it have a spending problem caused by reckless legislators who insist on finding new ways to spend money?

Both, they spend money like a drunken sailor on leave, the greed for overly generous pension money is insatiable. They burn the candle at both ends with a blow torch.

And now they propose free school lunch for all.

Fred Crespo (D) was quoted, speaking about new members, “We have to manage all the members to understand that there’s a finite number of dollars, and there’s only so many things that we can do.”

How can anyone who doesn’t understand this basic reality be elected to the state legislature?

The legislature is nothing more than a supermajority collection of intersectional identities – LGBTQIAP, woman, BIPOC, disabled, oppressed, etc. Each individual member is not really an individual – they exist as a member of the Democrat supermajority collective, and their only purpose is to vote party line on every issue the Dem leadership decides to call to a vote. That’s it. Question the vote, get a little uppity, and you will be replaced with someone more complaint. The legislature is not a place for Democrat members to make waves.

The illegal immigrants get free medical care – no co-pays, out of pockets or deductibles. But you? The native deplorable making $18.00 an hour at Wal-Mart or at some other downstate private company? LOL you’re paying $400 a month plus co-pays, out of pockets and deductibles, because THEY HATE YOU, deplorable. And the Chicago area Democrats that vote always vote blue no matter who, they hate you too. They’d throw you in a camp and give your home away to an illegal family to live, rather than deal with you.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
