"Illinois, which embraces social promotion, has figured the graduation issue out. That’s why Gov. JB Pritzker brags about graduation rates while ignoring deplorable test scores. That approach might fool the public, but educational deficits are easily recognizable in the real world. That’s why the Casey Foundation warns that if Illinois and other low-performing states don’t get 'more students on track ... (they) will lose a growing and essential proportion of its human capital to poverty, and the price will be paid not only by individual children and families, but by this entire country.'"
