Editorial: Michael Madigan exits the Illinois stage – Chicago Tribune*

"Madigan racked up successes for his party and built a solid supermajority in the House that is likely to remain for years to come. That will be part of his legacy. But he also leaves behind a state that is crippled with debt and unfunded pension liabilities, and a voting population that has grown apathetic and hopeless."

A good farewell gift to Madigan would be to bring back the amendatory veto.

“But he also leaves behind a state that is crippled with debt and unfunded pension liabilities, and a voting population that has grown apathetic and hopeless.””

This is a feature, not a bug, and transforms a slightly D majority voter base into a supermajority legislature.

And unfortunately, he is handing off his political malfeasance to a progressive caucus ready to inflict serious pain on the residents of the state for fun, joy, and ‘equity’.
