Editorial: Potential victims are shooting back. This should raise alarms for Chicago public officials. – Chicago Tribune/Yahoo News

"... (I)t’s the job of the mayor, the Police Department, the Cook County state’s attorney’s office, judges and all involved in the criminal justice system to make it so that those prone to crime feel there’s a decent chance they will be caught, prosecuted and punished if they commit those acts. For several years now, it’s fair to say, the risk-reward calculation has been far too heavily weighted toward the reward side for street criminals in Chicago."

Only problem is that in Cook County people who carry a firearm, and/or use it to defend themselves, are taking a risk that Kimmy will come after THEM instead of the criminal offender. And I don’t think the new Democrat SA is going to be any better.

Wow, finally a story that warms my heart. Perhaps we’re on the way back. If this really takes off Lil Kimmy will be made redundant. On the bright side there won’t be too many COC in jail because they’ll be in the morgue!

In the absence of police and a prosecutor the people are forced to fill the voids and protect themselves. I’ve long been expecting a Charles Bronson like enforcer to appear and to serve justice upon these criminal scum. The criminals have it coming to them.

Fantasies don’t anymore address root causes than Death Wish reduced crime after it came out.

For every criminal killed or imprisoned, another takes his place. And the way we run prisons as giant holding pens, they just learn more tools and criminal philosophy while they are there.

Sorry, but if the Roundhouse in Stateville was reopened and filled with the gang bangers it would make a sizeable dent in crime in Chicago and probably lower the overall cost to law abiding society. Pritzker and the Leftists Democrats want to empty the prisons, so IL has PLENTY of prison capacity.

Garbage. Not a fantasy. In the 1970’s concealed carry was not legal. Now it is legal and the criminal scum thieve at their own peril and mortality. A concealed carry response makes the world a better place for the rest of us. Especially in the twisted world of Kim Foxx.

Renaming seems to be popular in Illinois … perhaps if we renamed the “criminal justice system” the “victim justice system” the prosecutors and the courts might better understand what their mission is.

Just say’n.

I wish this were true but its wishful thinking. Illinois has been taken over by the crazy progressives who are becoming increasingly crazier and crazier. There’s a not insignificant portion of Illinois voters that love this stuff, they eat it up. They treat politics and their religion and the state is their God. They vote every election and they are becoming increasing unhinged. They are really no different than any other cultists or jihadists that ignores all logic and rationale as they pursue their ideological belief. They are my neighbors down the block with the Always Vote Blue No Matter… Read more »

People have a God given right to protect themselves and their family. If more of this continues hopefully these Thugs will think twice before they attack innocent people. Currently there are NO CONSEQUENCES for their criminal behavior, if this is the only way, we need more people protecting themselves

Raise alarm for who? God forbid potential victims fight back. The Tribune has been the Lori Lightfoot of journalism for nearly 2 decades.
