Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. I assume this editorial will be published in Sunday edition? Maybe what Illinois needs is a further leaning left to get middle and right voters to the polls. Or maybe enough conservatives have left where the Population is getting exactly the representation they want. I suspect the march left will continue.
The conservatives all left Illinois and were replaced by Democrat voting immigrants and foreigners. In 1970 Illinois’s foreign born population was roughly 5% of the population. Today foreign born are 1 in 7 residents, roughly 14% of the population, nearly two million people, and they vote Democrat at absurdly high rates. Those that did remain in Illinois over the years turned from Reagan and Bush red (Bush I actually won Illinois in 1992) to pu$$y pink, well actually deep blue, in 2018. The good news is that Democrats have lurched so far to the left that they are turning off… Read more »
Becareful what you wish for because you might actually get it. Cullerton retired and his likely replacement is a gulag-loving progressive who has fully embraced all aspects of the progressive dogma. Madigan, as terrible as he is, will be replaced with some nutjob from the progressive caucus who will pass Illinois’s New Green Deal. The new house leader won’t just eschew ComEd’s influence, but instead, force the entire state into wind power, ban natural gas, limit fossil fuel usage, and limit farming to old McDonald type ‘family farms’, but even Old McDonald himself will be banned, as old white men… Read more »
Who is John Galt?
John Galt is an extreme ideologue, just the other side of the coin of today’s extreme dogmatic progressive; except while that John Galt is a fictional character, the woman about to become president of the senate openly celebrates the transition of her son to a daughter, and believes that the rest of us should too, or else, the gulag. “Lightford spearheaded a bill that increased the number of counseling or psychotherapy visits minor children can receive without getting prior consent from a guardian. Vulnerable LGBTQ youth may not always be able to get such permission from unsupportive or abusive parents.”… Read more »
There is no such thing as an accident in politics. Madigan knows and controls everything that goes down. If Illinois has the worst finances of any state in the nation (and it does), none of that could have happened without Madigan’s knowledge and consent.
