On July 6, 2009 at the NEA Representative Assembly former NEA counsel Bob Chanin described why he believes that NEA and its state and local affiliates are effective at advocating for its members. For some background, there are two main teacher union networks in the United States, and each has national, state, regional, and local affiliates. The two networks are the NEA and it’s affiliates, and the AFT and its affiliates. CTU is AFT Local 1, a local affiliate of the AFT. Students ? Students don’t pay dues. Who cares what they think. Its called the Chicago TEACHERS Union. Students are the last thing on the mind of Sharkey and his zombie army.

Silly editorial because we all know answer already: CTU’s mission is ensuring maximum employment security and superb wages for member-teachers, NOTHING to do with education nor welfare of students of those teachers.
