Effective ban on natural gas in new buildings on Mayor Johnson’s to-do list – Crain’s*

Natural gas oven burner Legislation brewing at City Hall that would set carbon emission standards effectively banning the use of carbon-emitting gas in most new buildings in Chicago has yet to be introduced amid opposition and competing priorities, but it is likely to move forward later this year.

Fossil fuels will never be eliminated. Wind and solar do not provide the energy needed to power the electric grid. Right now wind and solar provide about 10%. Most gasoline use in by the airlines, diesel by construction and trucking. Load up that first electric powered jumbo jet with the Greenies for a free trip to Paris leaving from O’Hare non stop. Free you no fossil fuel goofs, free!

Will happen unless a couple of aldermen open a gas stove store.

I’s never buy a house without gas, especially in this climate. Electricity is not an energy source folks, it is just an inefficient, but convenient, way to transfer energy. Burning the gas in a power plant 100 miles away to cook your turkey with electricity entails a 40% loss compared to burning that same gas locally in your oven. Converting every home to electric will result in burning much more gas. Again, electricity is not a source of energy, it is a lossy conversion of burning some other real source of energy.

Maybe we should start fazing out politicians

They want to phase out coal, nuclear and natural gas. We’ll get by on wind and solar to power all our electric appliances. What could go wrong.

Brandon, stop it. On your best day your value in office is demonstrating a severe lack of intelligence isn’t an impediment to holding office.

Ah, whatever, I give up. 36 months or so until I can leave this moronic state…

Democrats climate ideology/ religion has a direct conflict with Mother Nature, not to mention common sense. But they do not care. Democrats are a full blown cult. Mother Nature always wins in the end.

This is only step one of their power grab — once gas power is banned, step 2 is to create a city owned (and mis-managed) electric company — with rolling blackouts as a daily event

When the idiot liberals in my life laughingly dismiss my calling politicians such as Johnson Communists, I say to them; “did you know that in our country of 330 million people, that there’s not ONE Communist”? When they look at me puzzled, I say, “name one”. The look on their face is priceless.

As you know, Mark, we have the same stuff in Evanston. The city is moving to ban new natural gas hookups. Why? Here ya go, some excerpts from an article; and yes, people can be *this* stupid; also Oak Park is always held up as a “role model” for everything in Evanston: https://evanstonroundtable.com/2023/09/20/town-hall-gathers-feedback-on-decision-points-for-phasing-out-new-natural-gas-use/ “During his introductory remarks, Mayor Biss stressed this ban would not require existing buildings to convert from gas to electricity. He said starting a natural gas phaseout by targeting new buildings is instead an “important” but “manageable” step toward phasing out fossil fuels entirely over the coming… Read more »

Yup, and since this guy has advanced degrees in math from Harvard and MIT you’d think he had some common sense, but no, he’s still an idiot…

Chicago Teachers Union contract demands are totally divorced from reality – Wirepoints

Details emerging about Chicago Teachers Union’s upcoming contract show just how divorced its demands, both extreme and expensive, are from the reality at Chicago schools. It’s not just about massive salary increases, but also about money for migrant students, climate initiatives, abortions and gender-affirming care. About blocking parental notification. Count on CTU’s demands to veer further from reality until the public finally says no.

Gov. Pritzker’s ‘ethics reform’ eliminates competitive elections and choice for voters – Wirepoints on AM 560 Chicago’s Morning Answer

Ted joined Dan and Amy to talk about a new law passed by the Democratic supermajority and signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker that results in brazen election interference, keeping Republicans off ballots; about a referendum that tests the waters for a renewed progressive income tax hike; about how the Parental Notification referendum question was knocked off the ballot; and why laws like that pass so easily.

Chicago needs more champions of literacy like Willie Wilson – Wirepoints

It’s rare to see city leaders in Chicago take an open, unabashed stance on the collapse of literacy. To complain is deemed as too political, too racist or too anti-public schools. So it’s refreshing to see Willie Wilson, a successful businessman and leader of the black community, call for a literacy initiative “with the goal of getting 100% of Black students reading at grade level.”
