Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Chicagoans want wards that match neighborhood boundaries but instead we have sprawling wards that link minority clusters for race based governance. Here’s one for you. A few years ago a ward committeeman set up a little shrine at our block party with picture of the alderman, lists of things he supposedly did for the neighborhood, etc. A group of us middle aged conservative types got to chatting with him asking why does the alderman claim these street lights are somehow “gifts” when we pay taxes for them? He’s no different than anyone else. Stop working and retire. Only he wants you to pay for it! Money isn’t real to politicians unless it’s in a fat envelope.
you and I have to work for our retirement. Politicians steal for their retirement. The only people that work near politicians are DOJ employees carrying boxes of evidence on hot day.
