Efforts to Draw New Chicago Ward Map Getting Started – WTTW (Chicago)

Ald. Roberto Maldonado said the Latino Caucus, of which he’s a member, has begun preliminary discussions on its goals; the Black Caucus is doing the same, as are white members of the council. But he said it’s too early to begin drawing a map, given that census data isn’t expected until mid-August.

Chicagoans want wards that match neighborhood boundaries but instead we have sprawling wards that link minority clusters for race based governance. It’s sickening and it’s 100% on the Democrats, you know that party that’s post racial. Chicago’s most active developing wards and most desirable are carved up like a Thanksgiving turkey. Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
