Staff at the elections board fined Harmon’s campaign $9.8 million earlier this year following a report that Harmon improperly accepted $4 million more than was allowed during the 2024 election. Harmon appealed, which sent the matter to a hearing officer, who recommended that the fine stand.
There are no laws for leftists. If a tax paying citizen of Illinois made a mistake to this level on their taxes, the state of Illinois would crucify them. But this guy…no, no, its a complicated law and he just made a $4M mistake…no biggie. Useless crooks. He is laughing at tax payers all the way to the bank.

Did anyone really think a sitting Illinois politician would have to pay a 9.8 million fine?
Isn’t Illinois Fun?

This is Illinois AF, as the kids say. Imprecisely written rule, probably purposely so, vagueness exploited, obfuscation injected, legal back and forth. Harmon likely ends up keeping the funds and/or returning some to donors as a “settlement”. Maybe a negotiated fine, cents on the dollar. He will sometime later retire with some of the cash to augment his pension.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
