Gov. JB Pritzker announced his support for eliminating the 1% state grocery tax in his sixth budget proposal. States similar to Illinois get along without taxing people at the grocery store. Illinois is among only 13 states with a grocery tax and the only one among the 10 most-populated.

As far as I know, there’s no tax on SNAP purchases (food stamps).
So how does eliminating tax on food benefit the poorest Illinois residents?
And how do local municipalities make up the loss?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Eliminating the gas tax or halving it would be much more beneficial. Those that actually have jobs and drive to work instead of chancing being randomly attacked by one of the underserved on public transportation would appreciate it. It would then be cheaper to make the money that is handed to the underserved.

A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
Save a dollar on a $100.00 grocery bill…..WHOPPIE!
You would cry like a bitch if they raised it 1 percent. There is no pleasing you spelunking doom grifters.
